The Sumter County Board of Commissioners is seeking qualified applicants to fill the position of Assistant Public Works Director. Salary is commensurate based on experience, qualifications and an equitable compensation and pay plan.
 

This position is responsible for managing, supervising, and coordinating assigned programs and activities within the Public Works Department including technical duties related to roads and bridges, draining systems, heavy equipment maintenance and project development for TIA/TSPLOST; coordinates assigned activities with other divisions and outside agencies; provides highly responsible and complex administrative support to the Public Works Director as they relate to TIA/SPLOST.  Minimum requirements include knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of baccalaureate degree in Civil Engineering, Engineering Management or a related Engineering course of study related to the occupational field; experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the diverse objectives and functions of the subunits in the division/department in order to direct and coordinate work within the division/department, usually interpreted to require three to five years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.  possession or ability to readily obtain valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

CERTIFIED DEPUTY SHERIFF - CIVIL DIVISION

The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office is seeking qualified candidates to fill the position of Full Time Certified Deputy for Civil Division. The Purpose of this position is to enforce federal, state and local laws and the protection of life and property. To ensure the safety and wellbeing of citizens and promotes the efficient and effective operation of the department. 

Minimum Requirements include the ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.  Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years. Must be a certified deputy with Georgia Peace Officer’s Standards and Training Act.

The Sumter County Board of Commissioners is seeking qualified applicants to fill the position of Correctional Officer. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to supervising inmates, observing inmates conduct and behavior, directing inmates during work assignments, patrolling the facility, and performing additional tasks as assigned. 

Minimum Requirements include completion of high school or equivalent.  Possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Georgia Driver’s License. Must be at least 18 years old.  Proof of these requirements must be submitted when applying for the position. Must pass P.O.S.T. Certification within the time frame required by this department, which is normally within six months of employment.

CERTIFIED FIREFIGHTER

The Sumter County Board of Commissioners is seeking qualified applicants to fill the position of Full- Time. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and education/experience and according to the Sumter County Classification and Compensation Plan. This position is responsible for protecting lives and property endangered by fires and other emergency situations.  Minimum requirements include; Be at least 18 years of age, not have been convicted of a felony in any jurisdiction within ten years prior to employment/appointment, have a good moral character as determined by investigation under procedure approved by Human Resources, be fingerprinted and a search made of local, state and national fingerprint files to disclose any criminal record (Criminal background check), possess a high school diploma or a GED, obtain National Professional Qualifications (NPQ) Firefighter I certification within 6 months of employment, possession of State of Georgia Firefighter certification or the ability to obtain reciprocity within 2 months of employment, possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia.  This license is required to be upgraded to a Class F license within 90 days of hire date.  Proof of requirements must be provided at time of applying.
