Responsibilities


  • Maintains civil and criminal files for the superior and state courts of Sumter County
  • Maintains traffic cases in the County (no city offenses)
  • Records all real estate transactions
  • Maintains Uniform Commercial Code (UCC-1) Filings
  • Records Trade Names
  • Records liens from judgments reached in our courts as well as lower courts
  • Commissions Notary Public applicants who reside in the County
  • Process passport applications as an official acceptance agent for the U.S. Department of State

Upcoming Appointment of Sumter County Board of Equalization

Sumter County is currently accepting applications for Board of Equalization Alternate member for the Sumter County Board of Equalization-Superior Court Clerk’s Office. These positions will be responsible to hear and determine appeals from assessments and denials of homestead exemptions and to set procedures for the conducting of appeals before the board. Qualified applicants should be 18 years of age; resided in the county for six months; not the holder of any elective office in the state or local government or held any such office within a period of two years preceding appointment; is not a convicted felon; owns real property located in the county, a high school graduate, not a member of a governing authority of the county or municipality, or a member of the board of education, member of the county board of tax assessors or employee or county tax appraiser. Applications will be available for pick up and accepted at the Sumter County Superior Court Clerk’s Office , located in the Sumter County Courthouse, 500 West Lamar Street; Americus, GA 31709.
