SUMTER COUNTY BOARD OF ELECTIONS AND REGISTRATION

SUPERVISOR OF ELECTIONS (FULL-TIME)

The Sumter County Board of Elections is seeking qualified applicants to fill the position of Supervisor of Elections. The purpose of this classification is to oversee and coordinate activities of the election process, including voter registration, candidate reports/documentation, elections, integrity of elections, legal/regulatory compliance, and maintenance of records. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. 

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff of employees and poll officers, coordinates daily work activities, organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work; ensures departmental compliance with Georgia elections laws and all other applicable codes, laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, procedures, and safety practices; initiates any actions necessary to correct deviations or violations; consults with Board of Elections and Registration, County officials, Secretary of State's Office, or other officials to review department operations/activities, review/resolve problems, receive advice/direction and provide recommendations; directs operations, projects and activities of the Elections and Registration Office; oversees the voter registration program and processes new voter registrations, receives voter applications, reviews for accuracy; oversees inventory of equipment, forms, elections supplies; communicates with Board of Elections & Registration, Secretary of State's Office, County officials, employees, poll officers, other departments, voters, candidates, elected officials, state agencies, legislative agencies, the public, the media, outside agencies, and other individuals as needed; provides assistance to candidates and elected officials; coordinates establishment of precinct lines and polling precincts, draws precinct lines, recruits/secures polling precinct locations, prepares reapportionment maps, oversees design and layout of ballots; proofreads elections ballots; plans organizes and oversees County and municipal elections. 

Minimum qualifications required include appropriate State of Georgia Election Officials Certification required within six months following their appointment. (O.C.G.A. 21-2-101a). High school diploma or GED, supplemented by three (3) years previous experience and/or training involving election coordination, voter registration, election law and electoral procedures, budget administration, supervision, and personal computer operations, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

ELECTIONS COORDINATOR (FULL-TIME)

The Sumter County Board of Elections is seeking qualified applicants to fill the position of Elections Coordinator. The purpose of this classification is to coordinate the organization and implementation of programs and projects associated with all aspects of the voter registrations and/or elections process, which may include set-up and maintenance of equipment, administration of voter databases, coordination of poll officials and poll locations, and implementation of various hardware and software.   

Major duties include, but are not limited to maintains comprehensive and current knowledge of federal, state, city and county codes in order to interpret, apply and ensure compliance with all applicable codes, laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures; initiates any actions necessary to correct deviations or violations; registers voters, creates and maintains spreadsheets, merges data into documents using templates; creates required  forms and materials specific to each precinct; completes data entry, filing, answering telephone calls, interacting with the public and other administrative duties; assists with ballot proofing, absentee voting processing, elections night; assists the Supervisor in compiling the annual department budget; monitors expenditures to ensure compliance with approved budget; in the absence of Supervisor, provides monthly vision activity reports to the Board of Voter Registrations and Elections; records meetings, transcribes and files Board minutes.

SUMTER COUNTY CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTE

CORRECTIONAL OFFICER I (FULL-TIME)

The Sumter County Correctional Institute is seeking qualified applicants to fill the position of Correctional Officer. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to supervising inmates, observing inmates' conduct and behavior, directing inmates during work assignments, patrolling the facility, and performing additional tasks as assigned.

Minimum requirements include completion of high school or equivalent. Possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Georgia Driver’s License. Must be at least 18 years old. Proof of these requirements must be submitted when applying for the position. Must pass P.O.S.T. Certification within the time frame required by this department, which is normally within six months of employment. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. SERGEANT (FULL-TIME)

The Sumter County Correctional Institute is seeking qualified applicants to fill the position of Sergeant. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to serving as Administrative Duty Officer; supervising institution staff and inmates on an assigned shift; ensuring compliance with institution operating procedures and inmate rules; conducting roll call and shift briefings; responding to medical and behavioral emergencies; resolving situations in accordance with policies and procedures; directing the work of personnel; ensuring the safety and security of the prison by monitoring inmate location, movement, and behavior; coordinating and conducting inmate counts; training, assigning, directing, supervising, evaluating and disciplining personnel.

Minimum knowledge requirements are: knowledge of modern corrections facility operations principles, supervisory principles and practices, Georgia Department of Corrections rules and regulations, building security principles, inmate labor laws and county work detail policies and procedures; skill in planning, organization and decision making; maintaining records and preparing reports, oral and written communication; skill in the use of firearms and restraint equipment. 

Minimum qualifications include but are not limited to: knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education; experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years' experience or service; possession of a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated; possession of or the ability to readily obtain certification by the Georgia Department of Corrections. SPECIAL OPERATIONS OFFICER (FULL-TIME)

The Sumter County Correctional Institute is seeking qualified applicants to fill the position of Special Operations Officer. Under supervision, the major duties include but are not limited to: maintains custody and security of prisoners and other incarcerated offenders and maintains order in correctional institutions and other places of detention; acts as first responder to all emergencies inside the facility and on the facility grounds; investigate any and all violations of departmental policies and/or state laws; enforces all institutional policies, rules, procedures and regulations; enforces rules, regulations and state laws necessary for control and management of offenders and the maintenance of public safety; escorts offenders in transit and during temporary leaves; guards facility entrances in order to screen visitors; maintains order, discipline and security within assigned areas in accordance with relevant rules, regulations, policies and laws; observes conduct and behavior of offenders; oversees offenders during work assignments, meals, and recreation periods; responds to emergencies; conducts routines and unscheduled searches of the facility and offenders for contraband; transports offenders to and from correctional facilities; will be on call and respond to emergencies or activities deemed necessary by the Warden, Deputy Warden of Security or the Administrative Duty Officer.

SUMTER COUNTY FIRE DEPARTMENT

CERTIFIED FIREFIGHTER (PART-TIME)

The Sumter County Board of Commissioners is seeking qualified applicants to fill the position of Certified Firefighter part-time. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and education/experience. This position drives, operates and maintains fire equipment and apparatus to mitigate fire and other emergency incidents. Responds to alarms and assists in the suppression of fires, including rescue, entry, ventilating, and salvage work; assumes command at emergency scenes until relieved by a superior officer; directs emergency operations until relieved by a superior officer. Operates and participates in the maintenance of a variety of equipment, tools, and apparatus; troubleshoots and resolves problems. Maintains the inventory of tools and equipment on apparatus; conducts daily inspection of apparatus; performs routine maintenance on vehicles, apparatus, and equipment; reports mechanical failures when assistance or repair is warranted; performs minor repairs and may assist on major repairs. Maintains current knowledge of county roads, geography, and water system; tests fire hydrants. 

Minimum requirements: knowledge, and level of competency are commonly associated with the completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with high school education. Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years of experience or service. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. This license is required to be upgraded to a Class F license within 90 days of the hire date.  Ability to meet current requirements set forth by the National Fire Protection Association and the Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training Act. Be at least 18 years of age, not have been convicted of a felony in any jurisdiction within ten years prior to employment, have a good moral character as determined by investigation under a procedure approved by Human Resources, be fingerprinted and a search made of local, state and national fingerprint files to disclose any criminal record (Criminal background check). SUMTER COUNTY PUBLIC WORKS

HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATOR I (FULL-TIME)

This position operates light to heavy equipment in support of assigned public works construction, repair and maintenance projects on county roads and infrastructure.  HEO I is considered to be an ‘entry level’ position with a minimal background in equipment operations of up to two years’ experience.

The Sumter County Public Works is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of Heavy Equipment Operator I. This position is responsible for operating/driving equipment and performs manual labor work associated with projects.

Major duties include but are not limited to: operates light to heavy equipment in the maintenance and repair of county roads, bridges, rights-of-way, and drainage systems; operates farm tractor, roll packer, and single axle dump truck; ability to learn to operate skid steer loader, backhoe, farm tractors with side-boom mower and rear mower, front-end loader, and other types of heavy and light equipment; operates a variety of hand and power tools, including chain saw, pole saw, weed eater, leaf blower, shovel, rake, shop brooms, etc.; unloads and loads equipment for transport; assists in traffic control at work sites; performs pre-trip and post-trip vehicle and equipment inspections; performs preventative maintenance and minor repairs on equipment; uses single axle dump truck to transport materials to and from work sites; replaces road signs, mows rights-of-way and other related duties; attends department meetings and training sessions.

Knowledge requirements include but are not limited to: knowledge of the techniques, equipment, and supplies used in public works maintenance; knowledge of county and departmental safety policies and procedures; knowledge of or ability to learn the geography of the county, including road names and locations; skill in the operation of assigned vehicles, trucks and heavy equipment; skill in prioritizing and organizing work; skill in oral and written communication.
