[ARCHIVED] Notice of Property Tax Rollback Rate

Sumter County Board of Commissioners

The Sumter County Board of Commissioners plans to adopt a 2025 millage rate of 13.09 mills, which reflects a rollback from the prior year’s rate of 13.15 mills.

Under Georgia law (O.C.G.A. § 48-5-32), local governments must calculate a “rollback” millage rate to offset increases in the property tax digest that result from reassessments. The rollback ensures that taxpayers do not pay more in property taxes simply because of rising property values, unless the governing authority intentionally adopts a higher rate.

The Board of Commissioners will set the final 2025 millage rate at its work session meeting on:

Date: 10/14/2025
Time: 6:00 pm
Location: Sumter County Courthouse, 500 W Lamar St, Americus, Georgia

If adopted, this rate will generate substantially the same total revenue from existing real property as last year, adjusted only for growth in the digest, such as new construction and other additions.

A copy of the 2025 Tax Digest and a chart of the last five years of tax levy and millage history will be available for public inspection during regular business hours at the Sumter County Board of Commissioners Office, 500 W. Lamar St., Americus, GA 31709
