PUBLIC MEETING – SUMTER COUNTY PROPOSED FIRE FEES

The Sumter County Board of Commissioners will be holding a public meeting on Tuesday June 29, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sumter County Courthouse Commission Meeting Room to discuss proposed Fire Fee Charges to be applied to property in the Unincorporated areas of Sumter County, the Cities of Andersonville, Desoto and Plains. These cities have elected to contract with Sumter County for these Services. (The cities’ contracts are being negotiated and are anticipated being finalized in the near future). The purpose of the fees is to fund the Fire & Emergency Rescue Department. The Fees will be determined by the Board of Commissioners and will appear on the Sumter County Property Tax Bill Notice that will be mailed in September and due December 1, 2010. The proposed fees are as follows:

Each Parcel $50.00 Plus

Each Residence $100.00
Each Mobile Home $100.00

Commercial/Industrial $150.00
(only 1 Improvement fee per parcel)

Non Profit/exempt Buildings $150.00
(only 1 Improvement fee per parcel)


Examples:
A vacant lot, farm (any size) without a residence would be charged $50.00
A home or mobile home on a lot would be charged a total of $150
(If a parcel has multiple residences – each residence would be charged $100)
A mobile home in a park would be charged $100.
(The park owner would be charged a parcel fee of $50.)
A church, school, non profit agency etc would be charged a total of $200 per parcel with
improvements.
A Business, Industry would be charged a total of $200 per parcel with improvements.

Notes:
An abandoned and/or uninhabitable house or mobile home may be exempted upon request.

All Property within the corporate city limits of Americus and Leslie will not be charged a fee and will not be covered by the service.
