Duties

The Sumter County Public Works Department duties include:

• Repairing potholes and sink areas on paved roads
• Cleaning storm drains, driveway pipes, curbs, and gutters
• Maintaining ditches
• Responding to flooding due to excessive amounts of rain
• Maintaining winter-related snow and ice
• Repairing and cleaning roadways, roadsides, and structures due to storms, floods, and other disasters
• Blading and reshaping road shoulders to eliminate edge ruts and ridges
• Maintaining right of way sections of residential driveways and mailbox areas
• Maintaining guardrails on bridges throughout the County
• Installing, replacing, and repairing all directional and street signs on County-maintained roads
